about

Offering up their first studio effort "Procedural Degeneration", Mr. Splice Guy gives their mutation on the original "punk scientists" of Devolution, Devo. A six song EP selecting tracks pulled from Devo's musical catalog spanning from 1977 to 1982, "Procedural Degeneration" applies a modern engineering update to Devo's classic, unmistakable, hook laden works.

While Devo's compositional DNA remains intact and their signature synth lines remain alive and well (albeit played with newer, non Minimoog D hardware), dry lo fi rock guitars are revitalized with a full bodied surf swagger sound while vocals are blown wide open with power pop howls and snarls that remain pleasing and melodic. Lyrically, "Procedural Degeneration" acts as a contemporary reminder that Devolution is alive and VERY well in 2024. Devo's critical social/political commentaries have not dulled with age at all. Quite the contrary: time has only sharpened their verses to a razor edge. Indeed, all of us are STILL Devo! Duty NOW, Spuds!
